Security - Detention Specialist

Wage: $13.42/hr
Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid VA drivers license, clean criminal record, good driving record.
Schedule: Works 4 ten hour shifts per week. Schedule rotates every 4 months from day to night.
Detention Specialists work in the control center accessing a computer panel to monitor inmate and employee movement throughout the facility.
Duties:
A. Communicates over the jails telephone, intercom and radio systems with staff, the public, visitors and other agencies.
B. Controls all persons entering and leaving the jails secure perimeter by ensuring positive identification and verifying their permission to enter or leave.
C. Controls all internal movement of staff and inmates by remote operation of gates and doors.
D. Monitors the jails emergency systems alarm panels and responds appropriately
E. Maintains required records and logs.
F. Issues and receives equipment, keys and other items according to PCRJ Policy and Procedure.
G. Maintains sanitation standards for the Post.
A. Functions as the facilitys Receptionist and primary contact person during regular business hours.
B. Responds to and screens all incoming facility calls and directs them to the appropriate extensions; greet public and official visitors to the facility and, when applicable, contacts appropriate staff to respond to visitors concerns; respond to questions from callers/visitors relating to inmates (e.g., Is an individual incarcerated in the facility?, How are funds put in inmates account?).
C. Answers questions about employment (e.g., where to come, qualifications for available positions); distributes job applications, ascertains that they are properly filled out.
