Security - Detention Officer
Salary: $34,723.00
Wage: Starting at $14.17/hr or annual base of $34,723
Schedule: Shifts start at 5:45 and end at 6:15, rotating from days to nights every 4 months. Officers work seven 12.5 hour shifts every 2 weeks with OT as required. A typical 2 week schedule would be the following:

Requirements: 21 years of age, high school diploma or GED, able to work 12 hour shifts, any day any time, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Duties:
A. Supervises and maintains control of inmates within, and during movement between specific areas (e.g., housing areas, single cells, indoor and outdoor recreation areas, medical and programs); supervises inmate work details, both inside and outside the secure perimeters of the facility; makes periodic security rounds of assigned quarters and/or work areas.
B. Conducts counts of inmates at both regular and variable intervals; remains constantly alert for signs of disorder or tension and reports such observations, including identification, attitudes, behavior and association of inmates to higher authorities.
C. Take steps to prevent introduction of contraband into the facility; initiates and participates in searches of inmate housing units and work and recreational areas to prevent secreting of contraband; maintains strict control of hazardous tools and materials, locks, keys, medicines and other items which could be used for illicit purposes.
D. Instructs and counsels inmates to ensure their cooperation within institutional operational rules and regulations.
E. Prepares reports connected with position responsibilities to include: special progress reports, minor work, disciplinary reports (both minor and major), accident reports, incident reports; use of force, etc.
F. Maintains familiarity with up-to date emergency procedures and proficiency with available methods/equipment, and with locking devices, alarm systems, computers, radio and electronic equipment; performs tasks, duties, coordinated events, as specified by the Master Schedule.
G. Conducts documented inventories of equipment and supplies, correcting deficiencies promptly, issues equipment and supplies according to procedures to ensure accountability, dispenses cleaning supplies and monitors use to ensure supplies are used correctly and waste is prevented.
H. Maintains on a daily basis sanitation standards at all posts by supervising inmate cleaning crews in accordance with the Housekeeping Plan, monitoring the cleaning activity, inspecting the completed cleaning activity and requiring additional cleaning or re-cleaning when sanitation standards are not met.
I. Conducts security rounds on assigned posts in compliance with the Department of Corrections Minimum Standards and documents all rounds through use of a pipe or in a written report in the event of pipe malfunction.
