Peumansend Creek Regional Jail Benefit Package

The Peumansend Creek Regional Jail Authority offers a wide range of benefits designed to contribute to the security, well-being and quality of life of its employees. A summary of the principal benefits for all qualified PCRJ employees follows:

Annual Leave

Annual leave will accrue bi-weekly (every two weeks) depending upon the number of years of service with the Authority. Employees will accrue 4 hours of annual leave every two weeks for the first five years of service, 5 hours for more than five and less than ten years, and 7 hours for more than ten years of service.

Sick Leave

Employees will accrue 4 hours of sick leave with pay for each two-week pay period of employment. Each employee shall be allowed to accrue up to but not to exceed 720 hours of sick leave at any time.

Paid Holidays

The Peumansend Creek Regional Jail observes twelve paid holidays each calendar year. They are:

Language Premium Pay
Specific positions at PCRJ require regular, frequent, and daily interaction with inmates whose primary language is not English. Employees in these positions who meet specific critieria are eligible to receive an additional $1.00 per hour for Language Premium Pay.

Virginia Retirement System

All full-time employees become members of the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) on their first day of employment. Each year, VRS will provide the employee with a personalized statement, indicating the amount of service credit, total contributions plus interest, information about life insurance, and projected retirement benefits.

Life Insurance

In addition to retirement benefits, VRS also provides the employee with life insurance benefits equivalent to two times your annual salary rounded to the next thousand dollars. These benefits are explained on the employee’s personalized statement.

Optional Life Insurance

There is the option to purchase additional insurance. The employee must pay the cost of this optional life insurance through payroll deduction.

Long-term Disability Insurance

In addition to the VRS benefit and when eligibility requirements are met, PCRJ covers the employee under Social Security, which will provide additional benefits upon retirement or disability.

Health and Dental Insurance

Each employee is eligible for health and dental coverage at a minimal cost to them. Spouse and family benefits are also available at the employee’s expense. Soon after completing the applications for this coverage, the employee will receive an identification card and a certificate describing rights and responsibilities under the plans. The coverage is effective the first of the month following the hire date.

457 Deferred Comp Plan

To help employees supplement their retirement income, this voluntary plan permits eligible employees to defer up to $13,000 annually of their earnings on a pretax basis to a savings plan. Employees may direct those funds into one of several savings investment options.

Worker’s Compensation

The Peumansend Creek Regional Jail Authority carries insurance to cover the cost of work incurred injury or illness. Benefits help pay for medical treatment and part of any income lost while recovering. Law, depending on the circumstances of each case, prescribes specific benefits.

Virginia Credit Union

Employees of PCRJ are eligible to join the Virginia Credit Union. Through the VACU, employees may take advantage of low interest rates on loans and credit cards.

AFLAC Benefits

Optional insurance is available for short-term disability, cancer and intensive care coverage at great rates! Each employee is also eligible for pretax deductions for dependent care and health expenses.
